Grant Gerke in Chevy Volt, EV Perceptions, GM

Electric car industry and its vehicles were flying low under the radar until Tesla landed on terra firma last year with the Model S and its rollout.

However, the big automakers have not been so successful in marketing this new technology. EV marketing almost requires a sub-marketing effort.

Anwyay, here are some of the latest television commercials by GM (www.gm.com) and Cadillac (www.cadillac.com). The commercial for Cadillac proudly states a "think BIG" themes (thank you, Elon Musk), though there seems to be a disconnect somewhat with the final product.

And, GM's Volt commercial is another weak attempt. Why not have its own unique "look" and contrast it against other Chevrolet products. One size fits all, I guess. I've always liked the idea of a Volt stoping in at a gas station in the Fall (leaves coming down), winter (snow falling) and etc.

What does everybody think?

(**As an aside, Ford Motor's marketing team came to a Fox Valley Electric Auto Assn. (www.fveaa.org) meeting last spring and provided test drives. Pretty savvy and "butts were in seats." Well done.)
